About Jim Halm

In 2010, at the age of 54, Jimmy was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

Extreme fatigue and multiple falls led him to doctors who eventually identified the disease.
Shortly thereafter, Jim was unable to make the commute downtown, so he reluctantly retired from his 30 year career in the options industry.

2013 was a very challenging year for Jim. He has open heart surgery, included an aortic valve replacement and a quadruple bypass. The heart surgery, as well as his MS, left him in a weakened condition. In the following months, he suffered a fractured rib and vertebrae, and developed a GI bleed, for which he required 11 units of blood. He was then admitted to a rehabilitation facility where he could improve his weakness and balance however a bad fell at that facility left him with a spinal cord injury.

The family has modified the lower level family room and bathroom for Jim where he spends his days and nights in a power wheelchair and hospital bed; but he has not had access to the rest of the family home for 18 months.
Jimmy’s loving wife, Terri, works full-time outside of the home and is Jim’s primary caregiver, a task that is both physically and mentally demanding. Daughters Barb and Amy, Jim’s brother Bill, sister Kathy, and their large extended family have been great in lending a helping hand to Jim and Terri.

Despite the many medical bills and added living expenses, Jim and Terri hope to one day purchase a wheelchair accessible van in order to ease the challenge of bringing Jim to his many doctor’s appointments as well as to improve their overall quality of life!
